As part of White Ribbon Day, (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women), Jane Doe Inc. was host to a convention that invited men and boys to be a part of the solution in ending gender-based violence. One major part of this convention was on the discussion of toxic-masculinity.
The prompt was to create an illustration that could be used in the brochure that would be passed throughout the convention. In creating this piece, I wanted to touch on the more verbal side of affection in depicting one man reaching out to another out of concern. Not only is there the display of affection by one making sure the other is okay, as well as stating the other can always rely on them, but then there is the more blunt form of affection with the exchange of each texting “I love you” to the other. By keeping the figures and text simple/broad, my hope is to allow room for interpretation/relatability in the viewer acknowledging the relationship between the two figures to be either that of two friends, two boyfriends, or a father and son.
Jane Doe Inc is a non-profit organization whose mission is to amplify the voices of all who are impacted by gender based violence and to undo the social injustices that perpetuate an abuse of power.
